Every NovaHUD feature, in plain terms
NovaHUD adds a floating voice layer on top of Claude Code. Below is everything it actually does — no roadmap items, no maybes.
The short version: NovaHUD gives every running Claude Code session a floating always-on-top card, a distinct human voice and a distinct orb colour. You talk to a session by name, nickname, session title or colour; each one can be set to Read aloud, Summary or Quiet; and you can interrupt a reply just by talking over it. Speech recognition, the voices and the summarising model all run on your Mac.
Floating cards that stay on top of everything
NovaHUD's cards float above every other window on the Mac — including the Claude Code app itself. You do not have to give up a screen region, tab away, or arrange windows around them.
One card per session, permanently bound. A card belongs to exactly one Claude Code session for as long as that session exists. It never silently re-points at a different session, so the thing you are looking at is always the thing you think it is. Drag a card where it suits you and it stays there.
Address a session however you happen to think of it
People do not remember session IDs. NovaHUD lets you reach a session by whichever handle comes to mind first:
- Its name — "Fade, run the tests."
- A nickname you gave it
- Its session title
- Its orb colour — "blue orb, are you there?"
- "Everyone", to reach all of them at once
Because every session has a different orb colour and a different voice, you can tell them apart by ear and by eye without reading a single label.

Three listening modes, set per session
Different sessions deserve different amounts of your attention. Every card carries its own mode.
Summary
Speaks the bottom line instead of the whole thing, and attributes it by session name so you always know who is talking. Best for the sessions running in the background.
Quiet
Says nothing at all, but still receives everything you send it. Best for the session you want to drive without being narrated at.
Interruptions work like a real conversation
Talk over a reply and it stops. Immediately, mid-sentence, without a wake word or a stop command — the same way interrupting a person works.
This matters more than it sounds. Without it, every wrong turn costs you the length of a full spoken paragraph before you can correct it. With it, you redirect the moment you hear the first wrong word.

Sized for how much you want to see
Four widget sizes, and you choose which one new cards start at.
Tiny
The orb and a status dot. Enough to know a session is alive and which one it is, and nothing more.
Small
The orb, the session name and its state. Fits a column of many sessions down the edge of a display.
Medium
Adds the current status line, so you can read what a session is doing without listening to it.
Large
The full status line and every control. The sizes are not scaled copies of each other — each smaller size drops information rather than shrinking the text.
No API keys. No per-token cost. No rate limits.
Every model NovaHUD uses runs on your Mac: whisper.cpp for speech recognition, Kokoro-82M on the Apple Neural Engine for the voices, and a local Llama 3.2 3B via Ollama for summarising and routing what you said to the right session.
That means there is nothing to configure, nothing metered, nothing to throttle you at the worst moment, and nothing you say is sent to a server.
